How We Got Started
I consider my Dad to be a Jack-of-all-Trades. Over his 70 years of life experience, he has been a farmer and rancher, an appliance repairman, a cement truck driver, a drywall contractor, a pilot, a fireman, a train engineer, an engineer training officer, a general contractor, an inventor, and an author (including those ever important roles of husband, dad, and, grandpa). For some inexplicable reason, through all his different work and now that he is retired, he has continued to do drywall and texture jobs for family, friends, and neighbors. Dad has a passion for beautiful interior spaces and nicely textured walls and ceilings.
Dad started out making texture tools for himself in the 1970’s. He used a wood handle, plywood, carpet pad, and shower curtain for the texturing surface. Dad used the tools on his own jobs and made some for his friends in the business. In just recent years, dad had an old friend contact him and ask him if he could buy a texture tool from him. Dad was surprised that a texture tool like his had not been created after so many years. At that point, he decided to start manufacturing. He made around 40 different prototypes until he got it to be lightweight, durable, and versatile. And so the Magic Mudder began.
